Overview
The 2010 Toyota Matrix is a stylish compact wagon/hatchback that offers great utility. For 2010, the Matrix remains largely unchanged except for the addition of standard stability control system. Based on the Corolla platform, the five-door Matrix hatchback is a practical choice for those who prefer verve and versatility over performance.
Power and performance
The 2010 Toyota Matrix comes in base, S and XRS trim levels. A standard 132-horsepower 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine powers the base front-wheel-drive Matrix. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard, while a four-speed automatic is available. The S and XRS trims come with a larger 2.4-liter engine that delivers 158 horsepower. The engine can be paired with either a five-speed manual or automatic gearbox. All-wheel-drive setup is available on the mid-grade S model.
Body and styling
Prominent standard features on the Matrix base model include a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel; air conditioning; power mirrors; fixed tie-down points; rubber inserts; fold-flat front passenger seat; and a CD stereo with an auxiliary audio jack. Additional features on the S trim are rear window wiper, underbody spoilers, an upgraded stereo, and 115-volt utility outlet. The top-end XRS trim includes 18-inch alloy wheels; upgraded seat fabric; rear roof spoiler; sport-tuned suspension and steering; and leather-wrapped steering wheel. A sunroof and an in-dash CD changer are optional on all Matrix models.
Safety Features
The car gets a whole array of standard safety features such as vehicle stability control; traction control; driver front and front passenger airbags; full-length side curtain airbags; three-point rear seatbelts for all positions; front and rear energy-absorbing crumple zones; four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes; active headrests; child restraint system; engine immobilizer; and tire pressure monitoring system.
